What is mesotherapy?

What is mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure where a series of superfine injections of vitamins, minerals and amino acids cocktails are delivered into the mesodermal layer of the skin. This infusion of savvy ingredients nourishes and rejuvenates the skin while also stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, both essential for skin’s natural elasticity.

What can you expect?

Treatment time takes approximately thirty minutes and whilst not painful, it can be slightly uncomfortable so an anesthetic cream can be used if skin is a little sensitive. With minimal downtime – a little bruising and swelling may occur but it will be short lived and should settle within 24 hours – skin will become more radiant, hydrated, nourished and firmer with an improved texture. A course of 6-8 sessions are advised every two weeks with maintenance treatments 1-2 times a year.

What are the benefits?

Mesotherapy can instantly improve dull, tired looking skin and superficial wrinkles but can also help to improve sluggish blood circulation, aiding the body to flush out ageing toxins. This treatment can also be used to address pigmentationproblems, treat acne scarring and be combined to enhance the effects of other aesthetic treatments such as Botox or fillers.

Here’s what happened when I tried it…

Before my appointment, I met with Dr Maryam, Aesthetic Doctor at the Cadogan Clinic www.cadoganclinic.com, to discuss my ‘problem areas’ and she decided that with my age (26) and areas of concern (dry skin/dull/lines appearing) that mesotherapy, combined with a red and yellow light therapy afterwards, would be the best course of action.

Dr Maryam offered me numbing cream for my face, which reduced the pain so I would definitely recommend it.

The mesotherapy consisted of Hyaluronic Acid, 12 vitamins, 23 amino acids and 5 minerals, 4 coenzymes, 3 nucleotides and 2 reducing agents. The treatment took about 15 minutes; it was uncomfortable but manageable and it felt like scratches across my face. The needle goes in and out very quickly (it is quite a shallow needle) and whilst the needle goes in and out, Dr Maryam was also moving it across/up/down my face almost breaking a layer of the skin which would then help rejuvenation of the skin combined with the vitamins.

I could also feel the vitamins dripping down the surface of my skin on my face during the treatment, which was quite refreshing!

After the mesotherapy, I sat under a red and yellow light therapy. At first the light was so bright it was actually quite painful on the eyes but that soon wore off after a couple of minutes and I sat under the light for about 10 minutes. This light therapy is used to improve the skin’s barrier function, expedite healing, calm inflammation and generate new collagen. Red LEDs also target skin’s oil glands to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines that develop into chronic acne.
I have to admit, I left the clinic with what looked like cat scratches across my face but within an hour, my skin was glowing and this remained that way for about a week. My skin felt and looked hydrated and dewy, which is exactly what I wanted! It’s worth doing if you have an event that you want a quick-fix for.

I would definitely have this treatment again as the recovery time was minimal, it was almost pain-free and the effects were almost instant.
